In such an ostensibly perfect world, social and economic ailments are but a fleeting memory of the vicious and warlike human societies of the past. Indeed, after the countless letdowns of past social experimentation, personal fulfilment and even individual happiness have now been successfully and tangibly mastered. However, in spite of all the astonishing accomplishments, there is still something missing in peoples lives... Lyndon embarks on a quest to find this elusive piece of the puzzle. Meanwhile, something seems to have gone terribly wrong- the virtual medic network has been recording a series of unsettling incidents, with some citizens falling seriously ill even leading, in some extreme cases, to untimely and inexplicable deaths.

The Department of Human Well Being is deeply troubled by it all. Lyndon is enlisted by the department to secretly investigate a reclusive group of individuals that might be connected with the mysterious deaths- the Congregation of Artists. These have been manifesting some strangely deviant attitudes towards society and its core principles, as all kinds of artistic pursuits have long been phased out for their lack of tangible value. Despite Lyndons genetically and socially programmed rational mind yelling orders to the contrary, he becomes increasingly entangled with the group, seduced by the bizarre ideas about life and happiness of a socially dreary, yet to him strangely fascinating, young woman.

Following in the footsteps of the groups leader, Lyndon is thrust back in time to war-torn Paris during World War Two, where the sheer brutality and misery of everyday life, and in particular the shocking encounter with a ruthless Nazi captain, will change his life forever. Lyndon begins questioning all the once clear and unyielding pillars of his rational and poised life. Will he ever find the fleeting and elusive key to unlock the mystery of what is troubling his perfect society?
